Cricket Encounters..

Was able to get time to play on sunday. Prasad had informed that a match with BTM team is scheduled. But they didnt turn up. As we had 11 players, we opted for practice and then play match amongst us.

as usual harsha picked me in his side.
prasad won the toss and chose to bat.
abdul started the first over for us. he bowls pretty tidily and was in full form.
the second over was more interesting. i think we were short of bowlers and harsha made right decision to pair a week bowler with strike bowler. so abdbul and me were strike bowlers wereas kiran and gosh were the support bowlers.
Surprisible kiran was the bowler of the day picking all the wickets.
in his very first over, kiran got rid of dangerous prashant. then in the same over he picked up another wicket.
Abdul bowled the third over , giving away few runs.
Now maruti and rama were batting. both are hard hitting guys.
again kiran struck twice in same over to get maruti caught at long on by lavesh and uprooted middle stick of ramakant. Both guys got out really soft and i was wondering how much more can they score. Then gosh started 4th over giving some runs as he was not in touch with game.
I bowled the 6the over. prasad was on strike.
prasad carefully left the first ball from me which was just right on off stump. Then made him induce a cut to rama in very short gully on the very next. but rama couldnt latch onto it. I have been trying to master the offcuters just like prasad does.
On 3rd ball, prasad tried to score but missed the lenght.
Again on 4th ball, prasad played cheekily and once again gave a fine catch to rama. rama missed it the second time !
so gave just 1 run in that over and felt the heat as i was playing after llong time.
Gosh bowled the next over pretty decently this time. Then again i bowled to prasad. This time he was able to get rid of rama and play over his head for couple more. this happened twice. then i tried bowling on his middle stump, which he was waiting for and hit it hard on midwicket. The long on and square leg fielders missed it and gave away cherished 4.

abdul and kiran bowled the last 2 overs. kiran again picking the last wicket in the final over. in all prasads team scored just 37 in 10 overs.

Harsha and me started the innings. played safe and got easy runs.
Prashant came in to bowl for the 4 over. and i was able to reverse hit for couple of balls. Easily managed to reach 27 in 5 overs. Kiran requested to get me retired and i tried going down and hitting straight , which is my week area nowadays. lavesh bowled a good length  ball, close to my legs which i missed to connect and voila gave away the first wicket. soon harsha too got out trying to hit to maruti. abdul and kiran had the easy task of scoring 14 runs from 6 overs. Soon kiran got out and abdul was left with gosh with a target of 5 runs. Gosh was lucky to get away with a very good ball from prasad, which just passed over his off stump.
Gosh did manage to defend the last ball of prasads over. The abdul hit the very first ball over prasad at long off for a four. He then scored the winning run.

As i had to catch the bus , i left the ground though the teammates were already on with the another game. In all, i enjoyed playing with pals and had great time.

Looking forwards to next match on coming sunday :)

My Startup - The beginning

Background The idea struck way back in 2007 when I was playing for IMM team in Bangalore. This group used to organize regular matches and an annual tournament with rival group BTM. We used to have high drama even for the local weekend matches. Surprisingly there was no way to publish results on any cricketing site. So I pushed the scorecard and match details on wordpress blog. Here is the link to the older blog: Marathi Cricket blog From then on, me and prashant - who was also teammate at IMM, always discussed on how to setup such a website on our own. But then I moved to pune and things got slowed down due to lack of time. We were always in touch and the idea to start was still in our heads. Meantime, I was looking at different db schemas and tried to come with one on my own. For almost 3 years, we were not sure how to go for this startup. So we tried our hands with joomla. And once we saw that we can build our own custom module like the way we wanted it, we became s...

On Road Encounters

In pune, there is never a dull moment when one is driving. Everyday, it somehow happens that i get into close shave! I am planning to post all such incidents here. So buckle up, put on ur helmets for this joy-ride, hoping that there wont be any road incident that i wont be able to write down later :) Friday, Jan 7, 2011: we planned to go to baner around 8pm. so started early for office as had to come back home by 7-7:30 pm. The ride to office was again free of any major troubles. Returned home in evening without any major findings. We started around 8:30pm for baner. Took the swargate-tilak road-university-baner route. There was quite traffic till swargate, as usual. There was a jam near durvankur on tilak road. There are basically non-operating signals on this busy cross-road and bikers zip through fast between cars. Was standstill with 2-3 cars ahead of mine. unfortunately, i couldnt see a biker facing me coming from durvankur. he too stopped dead next to my a-pilla...

Metro in pune

Metro in pune (28th Jan 2010) Now officially the govt has given the green signal to this project. As everyone knows, this decision was delayed quite a few times and god knows when it all had started. I find one thing that is common between these projects from pune and bangalore. These projects were approved once the land/flat prices  had reached there peak values. bangalore real estate prices were already were at its peak then and people thought it will bubble down. then came the metro and surely it helped push the prices upwards. So i am trying to understand the bigger picture. Did these cities had congestion problems earlier- yes. Did these cities had high real estate growth earlier- yes Did these cities had heavy migrant population leading to influx of lot of people- yes. Did these cities expanded like crazy- yes. The last one is really the one thing i consider to be the reason behind this. Both these cities expanded in residential boundaries. say now people are ...
