Merry Christmas

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas.

Today (23rd Dec,2009) we had a memorable christmas party.

Along with office-colleagues, I went to the mobile creche  at niyati groups project in tikare nagar.
This is on the way towards vishrantwadi.

There was this huge housing project and the creche was on ground floor of 4th building.
Thanks to the builders and the volunteers for setting up this facility.

Surprisingly the place was well decorated,  had lots of sunlight and of course lots of kids.
The entrance had a very cute paintaing of "bal hanuman".
Many cute looking paintaings were hung on the walls of the room.
The pillars were decorated with ribbons and balloons.
The mud-crafts done by some kids was nicely put up in one corner of the room.

Two parallel metal beams were placed at a little height above ground alongside one wall.
These were used to hold beds for very small kids who were happily asleep amid all this noise.
I didnt check out the whole room, but instead just kept moving around the entrance area.

The lady-in charge explained the day to day activities and it surely sounded good.
many of my friends were non-marathi so we requested the lady to talk in hindi.
She did a good job although she put a disclaimer about her fluency.

The puppet show organisers were busy connecting the dvd player.
and saw that there were no 3-way pins. These woman were using tapes to hold the wires in place.
after some trials, they were able to start the player.
After observing their failed attempts, tried to help them buy holding the wires in place.
But got frieghtened when i suddenly heard the click noise of the button, supposing it to
be a spark.

All the kids were made to sit in recatangle.
These kids were following all the instructions given by the organisers.

Finally it was time for the show.
And what a show it was!
The kids were behaving very well. I don't recall so many kids concentrating so hard on the show.

There was a song, story and another round of story, song session.

There was a hit marathi kiddo song played followed by the traditional crow-fox  friendship story .
This was followed by the story of birth of Jesus.
A typical bollywood song made all the kid to dance.

Then the chief lady in-charge came in and did side-talk with us.
We were introduced to them in between the show.

By the end of show, there were Christmas songs, jingles and a cool Santa did arrive
towards the end.  Santa danced with everyone, including us.
We never thought about santa. so seeing him was a pleasant surprise.

We did make the mistake of giving balloons to the kids. Suddenly all the kids started popping
the balloons. The kids started moving around and we thought many of them might get hurt.
But the teachers were able to calm down the kids.
We handed over the sweets to kids and that was the end of the visit.

My Startup - The beginning

Background The idea struck way back in 2007 when I was playing for IMM team in Bangalore. This group used to organize regular matches and an annual tournament with rival group BTM. We used to have high drama even for the local weekend matches. Surprisingly there was no way to publish results on any cricketing site. So I pushed the scorecard and match details on wordpress blog. Here is the link to the older blog: Marathi Cricket blog From then on, me and prashant - who was also teammate at IMM, always discussed on how to setup such a website on our own. But then I moved to pune and things got slowed down due to lack of time. We were always in touch and the idea to start was still in our heads. Meantime, I was looking at different db schemas and tried to come with one on my own. For almost 3 years, we were not sure how to go for this startup. So we tried our hands with joomla. And once we saw that we can build our own custom module like the way we wanted it, we became s...

On Road Encounters

In pune, there is never a dull moment when one is driving. Everyday, it somehow happens that i get into close shave! I am planning to post all such incidents here. So buckle up, put on ur helmets for this joy-ride, hoping that there wont be any road incident that i wont be able to write down later :) Friday, Jan 7, 2011: we planned to go to baner around 8pm. so started early for office as had to come back home by 7-7:30 pm. The ride to office was again free of any major troubles. Returned home in evening without any major findings. We started around 8:30pm for baner. Took the swargate-tilak road-university-baner route. There was quite traffic till swargate, as usual. There was a jam near durvankur on tilak road. There are basically non-operating signals on this busy cross-road and bikers zip through fast between cars. Was standstill with 2-3 cars ahead of mine. unfortunately, i couldnt see a biker facing me coming from durvankur. he too stopped dead next to my a-pilla...

Metro in pune

Metro in pune (28th Jan 2010) Now officially the govt has given the green signal to this project. As everyone knows, this decision was delayed quite a few times and god knows when it all had started. I find one thing that is common between these projects from pune and bangalore. These projects were approved once the land/flat prices  had reached there peak values. bangalore real estate prices were already were at its peak then and people thought it will bubble down. then came the metro and surely it helped push the prices upwards. So i am trying to understand the bigger picture. Did these cities had congestion problems earlier- yes. Did these cities had high real estate growth earlier- yes Did these cities had heavy migrant population leading to influx of lot of people- yes. Did these cities expanded like crazy- yes. The last one is really the one thing i consider to be the reason behind this. Both these cities expanded in residential boundaries. say now people are ...
